The Sustainable Family - Household Under Control

Everyone knows it and everyone does it. Shopping, washing, cleaning, and cooking. It costs money and consumes resources. Especially a lot when we have children.

"We want to show you how we, as parents, are fair to the environment and also to our family, with a conscious, gentle approach in everyday life and our responsibility towards the next generation."

"That may sound complicated, but in the end, it's not that difficult."

"In our own household, we decide how much chemicals we surround ourselves with, how many additives we consume, and how sparingly we use resources."

"Here we give you tips for everyday life that will both save your wallet and benefit the environment."

  • On the way to shopping
  • Always take your own bag when shopping and focus on unpackaged goods or on minimal and environmentally friendly packaging.
  • Everything in the bag?
  • Many types of fruits and vegetables can be picked up unpackaged. A cloth bag is also sufficient for your Sunday rolls. Over the course of the year, this alone saves up to 50 paper bags.
  • Shopping only in the supermarket?
  • "Health food stores, farm shops, or weekly markets are a good place to buy unpackaged goods."
  • Is tap water an alternative?
  • The tap water in Germany has a high quality. Drinking water is well controlled and has an unbeatable low price. This way, you avoid any packaging and don’t have to carry heavy crates. Bottled mineral water does not automatically have more minerals than tap water. The values can be read on your water supplier's website and compared with your favorite mineral water.
  • "Focus on reusable systems from the region for milk and dairy products such as yogurt.".
  • Cosmetics, washing and cleaning agents – there are other ways too
  • "They are often available as refill packs, which at least reduce the amount of waste. Even more economical are shampoo soaps and especially well-lathering bar shower soaps. This saves a shower gel bottle each time. For cleaning agents, there are many sustainable alternatives that, for example, consist of concentrates and are diluted with water at home. This saves packaging waste and protects the environment."

More ideas for everyday life

Avoid plastic, switch to green energy providers, buy second-hand clothes, repair items instead of buying new ones. Consider whether you can switch to cycling more often, and refrain from excessive meat consumption.

"Start with a topic that is particularly close to your heart. Once the ball is rolling, you will discover more things that you can change in family life to live a bit more sustainably."
